Hello hello,
It has been a very snail filled month for me. And on this Thursday, 23rd November, my little escargotoire of snails finally will be out of my studio and into the wonderful Incube.8r gallery! It will be up until the 5th December, and to sum the exhibition up in a nutshell (or a snail shell):
This current collection of artwork is a mix of predominantly oil paintings, with a few ink drawings thrown in for good measure. Through the painting of an escargatoire of snails, Georgia explores how at 39.5 years old she still can’t seem to get a hang of being-a-functional-member-of-society and also just how the hell do friendships work.
The opening night is Thursday from 6-8pm, at Incube.8r, 321 Smith Street, Fitzroy.
So what is my art-life like post snails? Simple put – 2018 is an exciting art filled year for me (yes, I’m skipping December and heading straight into 2018). I’ve had a few major projects bubbling away for the last few years that I have slowly chipped away on – but 2018 is the year – when to use my favourite activist* saying “time to shit or get off the toilet”
What exactly does that entail for me?
It means 2018 gets to be the year I head into the outback with my giant pinhole camera, print the spider webs I have been photographing since 2014, decide just exactly I want to do with all the road accident memorial shrines that I photographed whilst driving around the country, plus head to Hawaii for some wandering photography and also to see one of my favourite humans on the planet.**
I am also starting a mushroom farm – so that is what is happening in the non-art part of my life. Will there be mushroom art – HELL YES!!! Am plotting something involving glow in the dark fungi*** but first I need to spend time wandering in some forest in the dark to locate some that I can clone from.
So that is my life at the moment. Snail filled for the next few weeks, then large project based for the upcoming year. Exhibition wise – I might be off making art for the bulk of the year, but who knows as the year progresses!
Hope you have a delightful month as well.
Cheers,
Georgia
*I know many folks from all walks of life use it, but it will be forever linked with awesome activists.
**There will be a Hawaii based art project as well, but that is very much in the pondering stage.
